(Inside: Blank)

This card is easy: it’s either “Happy Earth Day!” or “Congratulations on your new window-washing job. Did you know that window-washers will change the world for the better?”

Need a card for that picky friend, and not sure what he likes? Go with some trees. Everyone likes trees. Especially trees in calming colors. And that makes this one of the most versatile cards of your entire collection.

Hurray(Front of Card)

Congratulations on Your Great News!(Inside Text)

In addition to being appropriate for all celebratory occasions, this card demonstrates perfection in a text-dominant card. (For reference, this was the last text-dominant card we encountered.) Your friend got a raise? Hurray! Someone’s getting married? Hurray! Your little brother got into college? Hurray!

My favorite aspect is that the “HURRAY” is in the perfect font to seem celebratory without screaming (HURRAY) or even needing an exclamation point (HURRAY!). Also, the colors are beautiful, which makes the card both elegant and fun. So use this card wisely: so many occasions in life deserve a sincere hurray that it will be hard to choose between them.

During a quiet moment...(Front of Card)

In a quiet place... think of me...(Inside)

This card, you quickly realize, is not for those with poor eyesight! It’s another pretty little nature scene with a thoughtful message, like the earlier Walt Whitman quote card. But this card isn’t aggressively celebratory. In fact, it falls most closely into a “thinking of you” category–except somewhere along the line, the message became “think of me.”

Still, that’s perfectly acceptable; your friends won’t mind being told what to do! And so find that person you think most needs a moment of rest and relaxation and send him on a quest: find a quiet place, make a quiet moment, and then think of me.

Once again, who deserves/has earned this card? What is the occasion?

Nice Playmate(Front of Card)

This little donkey...(Inside)

Your friend is on week three of sickness, and you’re running out of suitably inspiring cards. But wait, you think, what is more inspiring than an animal dancing in a sea of daisies with bells on its head?

Thinking of You(Front of Card)

Pussy looks so wistful...(Inside)

For the sick friend who can handle being responsible for making kittens cry.

Little Friend, Please Get Well(Front of Card)

This little horsie...(Inside)

One of my favorite things about this card (and its fellows, which you will meet tomorrow and the next day) is that the “front” is not actually attached to the part of the card inside inscription. This means that all three parts I’m showing you here can face the recipient at the same time–and yes, that includes both of the horsies.

Save this one for when you know your sick or injured recipient won’t mind being called “little friend” by a red horse.
(Yes, the “little friend” sign is actually removable/interchangeable with the other signs in the set–but where’s the fun in that?)

Every hour of the day and night is an unspeakably perfect miracle(Front of Card)

(Inside: Blank)

This aggressively optimistic card is perfect for cheering up congratulating a generic special someone on that generic special day(?)

Readers, whom do you think should receive this card, and what’s the most appropriate occasion?

There's so much about life worth celebrating...(Front of Card)

(Inside: Blank)

You bought this card to give to your dear friend, the one with whom you can celebrate the “simple joys of quiet friendship” and everything else. The front of the card so perfectly encapsulates how you feel that you can hardly imagine what else there is to say. Then you open up the card, and the blank space inside dares you to write even more. Now you must compete with that long paragraph, that page-consuming text, to legitimize your friendship. This is where you must prove to your friend that your friendship transcends this flowery store-bought sentiment into something real and tangible and true.

And after all that, you’ll inevitably write on an incline, or have some kind of pen malfunction that will remind you that the truth in your heart will never look as good as pre-packaged sentiment.

To My Special Friend(Front of Card)

It takes alot of wonderful things to make a special friend...(Inside Text)

Interestingly, this card is from “Fantusy,” which also explains its “quirky” spelling of “a lot” as the more fantustical “alot.” But what truly captivates is the look shared between our protagonists, the kitten and duck: I would like to eat you, thinks the cat. I shall fluff out my feathers so that you think I am more frightening than I really am, thinks the duck.

And that is what makes your friendship truly special.
